Shanghai Institute of Measurement and Testing Technology Co Ltd (SIMT) and German testing and certification company TUV Rheinland have established a joint robotics testing laboratory in Shanghai, strengthening technical support for companies in Zhangjiang Robot Valley in Pudong New Area.

The laboratory passed a technical review organized by TUV Rheinland on Oct 15 and has been officially inaugurated. The partners will conduct technical research and develop standards for service robots and smart products, jointly develop testing facilities and equipment, and build capabilities in safety, electromagnetic compatibility, reliability and environmental testing.

SIMT has also agreed to cooperate with Zhangjiang Group. Together with the National and Local Co-Built Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center, the two sides will combine Zhangjiang Group's industrial resources with SIMT's metrology expertise to serve companies across the embodied intelligence supply chain.

SIMT's specialized services cover three key areas: force measurement, motion accuracy and acoustic testing. It provides mechanical performance testing for complete robots, joints and force and torque sensors, as well as calibration of industrial robot positioning and trajectory accuracy.

Its 600-square-meter laboratory supports large-scale motion measurements, while full- and semi-anechoic chambers enable acoustic testing of robot noise sensors and voice interaction systems.

The partnerships will expand access to specialized testing and technical support as robotics technologies move from research and development toward practical applications, and from Zhangjiang to broader markets.
