With the ninth China International Import Expo less than 50 days away, multinational healthcare companies in Shanghai's Pudong New Area are preparing to showcase innovative medicines and medical technologies, including products developed through local research and innovation partnerships.

Medtronic, which has participated in every CIIE, will display about 120 products and solutions spanning cardiovascular care, neuroscience, surgery and diabetes care — its largest lineup at the expo — with seven making their debut.

Highlights include a locally developed orthopedic surgical navigation and positioning system that integrates navigation and robotic modes, and "Honghu", a single-use powered linear cutting stapler developed to meet clinical needs in China.

AstraZeneca will occupy a 1,000-square-meter booth in the medical devices and healthcare exhibition area. Across the expo's first eight editions, the company has introduced 20 products making their China debuts. One breast cancer drug showcased in 2025 was approved, commercially launched and included in medical insurance within eight months.

The company plans to invest more than 100 billion yuan ($14.9 billion) in China by 2030 and will present additional therapies for cancer, chronic diseases and rare diseases at this year's expo.

Boehringer Ingelheim, exhibiting for the eighth consecutive year, will showcase 10 products and solutions in human pharmaceuticals and animal health, several making their China debuts.

Its plans to expand in China include establishing a new research and development center in Zhangjiang and localizing production of its drug Jascayd (nerandomilast). The new center is expected to strengthen collaboration with China's biotech sector and accelerate the development of innovative therapies.
