AI helps drive industrial upgrading in Waigaoqiao
Artificial intelligence is accelerating industrial upgrading in Shanghai's Waigaoqiao bonded area, where a growing number of companies are combining AI with logistics, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and other sectors.
Recently, DSV, a global transport and logistics provider, put a new project into operation in Waigaoqiao. The facility provides bonded storage, cross-border distribution, resource allocation, and integrated supply chain services for high-tech AI products, serving as a key hub for DSV's Greater China and Philippines cluster. DSV has operated in Greater China for more than 20 years.

Technology and healthcare company Yaotong Technology has also established operations in Waigaoqiao. A company representative said the area's bonded research and development and cross-border customs services fit its AI-powered healthcare business.
Waigaoqiao is also developing services for emerging technologies such as brain-computer interfaces. Local companies including StairMed and Wiraxon are advancing related technologies, while the Waigaoqiao Brain-Computer Interface Product Service Package provides support ranging from project assessment and clinical research to registration, market access, real-world applications, and financing.
AI is also being applied to traditional industries. Agilent Technologies' China Innovation Center is exploring the use of AI in laboratory instruments and workflows to improve efficiency and support customers in areas such as biopharmaceutical research.
Cross-border financial services are another part of Waigaoqiao's support system. Its financial consulting team has assisted technology companies such as Insilico Medicine and Innoscience Technology with overseas investment compliance and cross-border structuring as they access international capital markets.
Waigaoqiao is also expanding computing infrastructure and industry applications through partnerships with AI-related companies and research institutions. These efforts aim to help companies move from technology development to commercial applications and from the domestic market to global markets.
