The Shanghai Eastern Hub International Business Cooperation Zone has introduced streamlined customs and immigration procedures to make it easier for overseas businesspeople to enter, leave, and conduct activities in the zone.

Since its pilot area began closed operations on Dec 28, 2025, Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection has worked with the zone to develop a smart border inspection system and apply facilitation policies from the National Immigration Administration. The measures support international exhibitions, business meetings, technology exchanges, and training.

Unlike conventional passenger ports, the zone offers multiple clearance options. Processing takes about 6 to 8 seconds, compared with 12 to 15 seconds at conventional fast-track channels.

During the China International Appliance and Consumer Electronics Expo in March, more than 76,000 entries and exits were recorded over three days. The channels handled up to 6,000 people per hour at peak times, while queues remained at no more than three people per channel, according to the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection.

Overseas participants can complete online invitation registration through event organizers up to 48 hours in advance. With an electronic invitation and passport, eligible travelers can fly directly to Shanghai Pudong International Airport and enter the zone without going through the airport's regular immigration process. They can stay in the zone for up to 30 days at a time and may apply for one extension.

The zone also provides rapid channels and a "tidal" lane system that allows entry and exit lanes to be switched according to passenger flows. An in-zone remote check-in hall enables travelers to complete airline check-in before being transferred directly to the airport boarding area.

The measures are designed to balance convenience with security, while supporting the zone's role as an international venue for business exchanges.
