Pudong New Area unveils 2024 economic achievements and 2025 development goals
The fifth session of the seventh Pudong New Area People's Congress was held on Jan 8. Wu Jincheng, deputy Party secretary and head of Pudong, delivered a government work report to the congress on behalf of the Pudong New Area People's Government. This report served as a testament to Pudong's accomplishments in 2024 and outlined its main tasks for 2025.
2024 economic data highlights
Pudong New Area has witnessed remarkable economic development in various sectors. Its regional GDP exceeded 1.73 trillion yuan ($238.13 billion), with general public budget revenue reaching 130.87 billion yuan. The industrial output value above designated size hit 1.32 trillion yuan and social service industry operating income above designated size surpassed 1.2 trillion yuan. Fixed-asset investment exceeded 350 billion yuan.
The output values of Pudong's three leading industries — integrated circuits, biomedicine, and artificial intelligence — are projected to reach 270 billion yuan, 420 billion yuan and 150 billion yuan, up 8 percent, 10 percent and 4 percent year-on-year, respectively. The aerospace, auto parts, and shipbuilding sectors all achieved double-digit growth.
2025 development goals
Looking ahead to 2025, Pudong has set ambitious development goals aimed at further enhancing its economic prowess and social welfare.
The goals include a growth rate of over 5 percent in regional GDP, a 3-percent increase in industrial value added, a 2-percent rise in general public budget revenue, and steady yet progressive growth in fixed asset investment across society. Total retail sales of consumer goods are projected to surpass 400 billion yuan, while the total value of imports and exports is expected to reach 2.6 trillion yuan.
Furthermore, the district hopes to increase the per capita disposable income of residents alongside economic growth, reduce energy consumption, and reduce major pollutants to meet the relevant municipal requirements.
