Construction contract inked for four container ships in Shanghai
A construction contract for building four container ships each with a capacity of 11,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) was inked between Shanghai China State Shipbuilding Corporation's (CSSC) Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Singaporean ship owner X-Press Feeders, on May 29, in Shanghai.
The tailor-made vessels were designed, researched and developed independently by Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding. They will be equipped with an additional methanol fuel power system for future adaption, according to the contract.
Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding also delivered a 7,000 TEUs container ship to X-Press Feeders on the same date. Named as X-Press Pyxis, the vessel is the last of the 12 medium sized container ships ordered by X-Press Feeders.
Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has delivered 21 7,000-TEU container ships since June 2023, displaying the Shanghai-based shipbuilder's strength and capability in constructing medium sized container ships.
