In the past decade, Pudong New Area has further optimized the layout of medical resources and layed a solid foundation for Shanghai's development.

At present, Pudong is home to more than 1,500 medical and health institutions at all levels and types, with 27,300 open beds. National medical centers for traditional Chinese medicine, dentistry, and children as well as seven regional medical centers have settled in the region. All community health care centers meet the national standards.

On top of that, multiple Grade-A tertiary hospitals with long histories have also settled in Pudong. Among them, the Pudong Campus of Fudan University Affiliated Cancer Hospital opened in 2019, and they offer high-quality cancer treatments.

In recent years, Pudong has been promoting the integration of industry and medicine. At present, the new area has gathered over 2,700 biopharmaceutical enterprises, which account for about 40 percent of the city's total. The annual outpatient volume in Pudong New Area is over 46 million people, with 800,000 discharged patients and 720,000 patients receiving surgeries. The huge demand for medical services provides excellent clinical resources for the integration of industry and medicine.
