Siemens Healthineers, a German healthcare equipment developer, will continue to invest in Pudong New Area, which is located in East China's Shanghai, to take an active role in promoting the construction of the area's local medical innovation ecosystem, according to Wang Hao, president of Siemens Healthineers Greater China.

Thirty years ago, Siemens Healthineers started its process of local research and development (R&D) and production in China, and launched its branch company in Pudong. In 1992, the first computerized tomography (CT) scanner that was produced in China made its debut in Pudong, and this year, the Shanghai Diagnostics Plant of Siemens Healthineers, which received an investment of about 3 billion yuan ($429.91 million), is about to be put into operation.

"We are committed to setting up an all-round localization development strategy covering innovation and R&D, production, talent training, and a partner system in China. After 30 years of development in Pudong, we have seen that the Pudong government has actively promoted innovative and pioneering measures, and made great efforts to create a market-oriented, law-based and internationalized first-class business environment for enterprises," Wang said.

In June this year, the German medical technology powerhouse unveiled its latest localization strategy in China, vowing to promote the localization of full product lines, innovate more based on Chinese market demands, and upgrade local business models.

The company's Shanghai Diagnostics Plant is scheduled to finish construction by the end of this year, and a wider ecosystem based on the Siemens Healthineers Shanghai Innovation Center is continuing to develop in an orderly manner.

According to official data, the cumulative shipments of medical devices produced by Siemens Shanghai Medical Equipment Ltd in Pudong has exceeded 40,000, which has become one of the largest R&D and production bases of Siemens Healthineers worldwide.
