The Expo Area, which is located in Pudong New Area, East China's Shanghai, has set high-quality development goals in respects to economy, culture, innovation, and environment for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period.
It plans to make greater efforts to develop its headquarters economy. By the end of 2025, the area is expected to be home to 25 headquarters covering a wide range of industries, including 10 headquarters of multinational companies. In addition, it aspires to house 150 central government-owned companies and 20 international organizations.
The area will speed up the building of commercial zones and attract world-renowned brands to stimulate consumption. Its total area of commercial properties is expected to reach 6 million square meters, while eight new luxury hotels are expected to open in the area by the end of 2025.
More cultural venues will be added to the area to bolster the development of its cultural sectors. A group of entertainment complexes, such as the Mercedes-Benz Arena, the Expo Cultural Park, the Shanghai Grand Opera House, and an equestrian center, will offer more than 60,000 seats, which is equivalent to the size of Broadway in New York and London's West End.
A number of international concerts, competitions, and launch events will be held in the Expo Area, attracting more than 10 million visits every year.
Dedicated efforts will also be made to promote bulk commodity trade, services, and tourism, as well as to improve the area's business environment.
