Zhangjiang zone aims to be nation's hub for medical devices

The Shanghai Zhangjiang Medical Device Industry Base in Zhangjiang Science City in Pudong New Area, East China's Shanghai was expanded to 4.23 square kilometers, as well as introduced a number of functional platforms to bolster its research and development (R&D) level, according to a local news report.
The base will focus on specific areas, such as high-end medical imaging equipment, the in-vitro diagnosis industry, orthopaedic implants, and vascular intervention. The industrial output value of the base is expected to reach 10 billion yuan ($1.56 billion) by the end of the year, and it will develop itself into a national cluster for medical device industry, with a total industrial output value of 30 billion yuan by 2025, according to the development plan.
Currently, the base is home to leading enterprises like Liferiver, a Shanghai-based diagnostics solution provider, and it has helped a number of innovative enterprises achieve the integration of R&D and manufacturing.
Statistics show that in 2020, Zhangjiang enterprises developed 43 products that were listed as domestic Class III medical devices, accounting for 48.3 percent of Shanghai's total.
Currently, the Shanghai Zhangjiang Medical Device Industry Base has bolstered efforts to promote the development of the medical device industry, with a number of related platforms built in the base, which will inject new vitality into Zhanjiang's development.
