Keynote speakers discussed AI use across the shipping chain, the role of technical standards in improving vessel safety and accelerating the green transition, and opportunities for stronger international collaboration.

The Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration also introduced five initiatives covering safety, efficiency, green development, and standards. These include a weather-monitoring network to improve ship-specific responses to severe weather, China's first research and development center for handling new ship pollutants, and the country’s first inspection guide for pure car and truck carriers.

Ten practical application scenarios were unveiled, featuring digital humans for shipping, multimodal transport data sharing, homegrown cruise ships, dual-fuel marine engines, and intelligent trade decision-making platforms.

Pudong also released a plan to develop shipping talent in partnership with international organizations and industry bodies, alongside an initiative that promotes trusted data sharing, mutual recognition of standards, AI adoption, and green finance.
