Pudong eyes new opportunities as physical AI emerges

Physical AI is emerging as a new frontier for the industry's development. Pudong is moving early to capture this opportunity, leveraging its growing embodied intelligence cluster.

High-quality real-world interaction data is critical to the development of physical AI. Pudong-based Maniformer Embodied Intelligence Technology is addressing this challenge with a full-stack infrastructure covering data collection, governance and evaluation.

Its MEgo series data-collection products are already being deployed across factories, logistics, retail, hospitality, healthcare and other real-world settings. Its MEgo Engine data governance platform offers automated data preprocessing, spatial reconstruction, multimodal annotation and quality evaluation procedures, improving manual data-processing efficiency by more than tenfold.

The district is also advancing physical AI across multiple application areas. In industrial robotics, ABB Robotics has unveiled a digital twin closed-loop workstation and an AI-guided snap-fit assembly workstation.

In humanoid robotics, MATRIX-3, developed by Shanghai-based Matrix Robotics, features highly anthropomorphic dexterous hands and a physical foundation model designed to support applications ranging from industrial manufacturing to everyday life.

Pudong company Elite Robots is also exploring applications in optical-module production lines and AI server rooms, where robots perform precision operations such as optical alignment and fiber insertion.

All the aforementioned companies are based or have production lines or factories in Zhangjiang. With Zhangjiang as a core innovation hub, Pudong is building an increasingly complete physical AI ecosystem spanning foundational models, data infrastructure and real-world applications, positioning itself at the forefront of the emerging industry.
