Pudong New Area is accelerating efforts to build a global hub for standardization, driving industries to go global through internationally aligned standards.

The Shanghai Pudong Mingzhu international standardization institute has recently taken over the secretariat of ISO/TC350 on creative digital design and developed 17 potential proposals.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Shanghai released the nation's first local regulation to promote standardization-driven innovation in Pudong New Area. This policy motivates enterprises to engage in international standard-setting, propose new initiatives, and enhance global industrial competitiveness through standards-based cooperation and outreach.

Pudong has established a framework of international standardization bodies, covering ISO technical committees, working groups, mirror organizations, and international professional associations.

It supports key events such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Forum on Traditional Medicine and strengthens collaboration with global partners in sectors including electronics, telecommunications, and smart manufacturing.

Local market regulators report that foreign-invested firms are encouraged to join national standard-setting. Since the regulation took effect, 31 foreign companies have led the formulation or revision of 52 national standards. Pudong institutions have also contributed 33 international standards in AI, biomedicine, electronics, and intelligent manufacturing, showcasing China's innovation capacity.

Pudong New Area continues to cultivate service institutions that support enterprises through consulting, technical research, and compliance. Ongoing work includes 15 international standards in sustainable development, e-sports, e-commerce, and logistics, with ISO/TC350 to hold its annual meeting and inaugural session in Shanghai later this year.
