Pudong's economy thrives with vibrant consumer activities during May Day holiday
During the May Day holiday, the major commercial districts in Shanghai's Pudong New Area witnessed a significant surge in customer traffic and sales, thanks to the area's shopping spree campaign and the Shanghai International Shopping Festival.
Pudong plans to distribute consumption coupons worth 50 million yuan ($6.9 million) in total across five rounds, injecting new vitality into the market.
Key shopping malls in Pudong, with over 1,300 participating merchants, offered attractive discounts and promotions.
Shanghai No 1 Yaohan, boasting over 600 brands, launched an "ALL IN LIFE" event with discounts up to 70 percent off, coupled with additional coupons, attracting a 26-percent increase in customer traffic and a 33-percent rise in sales. Bicester Village Shanghai and Florentia Village Shanghai also saw brisk business, with consumers enjoying significant savings through coupons.
In addition to shopping, Pudong's diverse consumption scenarios, including the 2025 Shanghai International Flower Show, further boosted tourism and leisure activities. The event attracted numerous visitors, driving a 130-percent increase in customer traffic and a 31.7-percent rise in sales at participating venues.
