Civil aviation industry booms in Pudong
The C919, China's first self-developed trunk jetliner, received its type certificate in September from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, and is expected to be delivered by the end of this year and put into commercial operation soon after that, which is an example of the civil aviation industry's boom in Pudong New Area, Shanghai in recent years.
According to official data, the output value of the area's civil aviation industry exceeded 10 billion yuan ($1.4 billion) in 2020 for the first time, and reached 11.12 billion yuan last year, a year-on-year growth of 12.8 percent.
The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), which is also the manufacturer of the C919, was established in Shanghai in 2008, and the company's research and development center, the final assembly center, and the test flight center were also launched in Pudong during the years that followed. All of which have injected a strong impetus into Pudong's civil aviation industry.
A number of manufacturing enterprises in the aviation industry have invested in Pudong, and many research institutes have launched their branches in the area, such as the Aircraft Strength Research Institute Shanghai Branch and the AECC Commercial Aircraft Engine, which has set up an industrial park in Lin-gang Special Area in Pudong. These leading enterprises have provided Pudong with the best resources and conditions for the development of the civil aviation industry in Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region.
Driven by the industry leaders, Pudong is now fostering a complete industrial layout for the civil aviation industry.
