Ordinary heroes battle COVID-19 outbreak in Pudong

Every hero is an ordinary person, and every ordinary person can become a hero.

As Shanghai, a megalopolis with a population of 25 million, remains under lockdown to combat a fierce outbreak of COVID-19, and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, which is an important aviation hub in China, is facing heavy tasks of inspecting imported and exported goods. Fourteen customs officers at the airport shouldered their responsibilities without hesitation.

Jia Wenhao, one of the 14 customs officers, said that they have remained at their posts for more than half a month, and they have made their contributions to the smooth operation of the customs clearance work.

From March 28 to April 7, the team had completed inspections of more than 400 items. On April 2, customs at the airport carried out urgent inspections late into the night to ensure that a batch of plant seeds could reach Changzhou in Jiangsu province as soon as possible, which were needed to be sown in early April. Thanks to their great efforts, some urgently needed products from across the globe were able to reach customers in a very short amount of time.

Customs at Pudong International Airport have implemented a quick customs clearance process, and opened green channels to ensure speedy delivery of some important products such as photoresists, which plays an important role in the normal operation of integrated circuit enterprises.

Since the city’s lockdown in late March, Shanghai Customs has taken special measures to ensure that the customs clearance process at the world's largest port for imports and exports will not be affected by the city's phased lockdown.
