Pudong firm behind construction of National Speed Skating Oval
A high-tech firm in Pudong New Area, East China's Shanghai, is among a handful of innovative and high-tech companies that have helped construct facilities at the ongoing 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
Shanghai Welding Equipments and Consumables Company, founded in 1951, is a core subsidiary of the Shanghai Tayor Heavy Industry Group. The company's advanced devices and technologies were used in the construction of the National Speed Skating Oval. Sitting in the Olympic Forest Park next to the Beijing 2008 tennis facility, the National Speed Skating Oval, dubbed the "Ice Ribbon", began construction in April 2017, and was completed in 2019.
The National Speed Skating Oval has the largest single-layer bidirectional orthogonal saddle-shaped roof in the world, which posed technical difficulties during the construction work before being completed. The high-quality welding products made by Shanghai Welding Equipments and Consumables Company were key components for building the skating stadium.
The company is a high-tech enterprise focusing on the research and development, manufacturing and sales of welding materials, and has been awarded the honorary title of being a Shanghai Brand Product for 14 consecutive years.
