The Shanghai camera and photography museum opened in Pudong New Area on Sept 19. It is the only camera museum in Shanghai.
An exhibition featuring historical photos of Shanghai from 1850 to 1949 is currently underway on the first floor, showcasing more than 50 photos by renowned photographers from the 1800s.
According to experts, the photos are the earliest photographic records of Shanghai’s urban scenery and show that the city was a cultural center even in the 19th century.
The first floor also houses a café where the tables resemble camera gears, and an open reading area where photography books and magazines are available.
The second floor features photographic equipment and information on the development of photographic techniques, while the third floor displays cameras from throughout China's camera manufacturing history.
The oldest remaining production line of Seagull, the nation's first camera company, is also preserved on the third floor.
The fourth floor consists of a classic photography technology research center and a studio, which will host public activities in the future.
