People passed through the Pudong International Airport more than 39 million times in 2019, an increase of 1.6 percent year-on-year, making it the busiest airport in China for the 17th year in a row, according to the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection.
As Shanghai continues to become more cosmopolitan, a series of measures to streamline entry-exit inspection procedures and improve online government services have helped passengers save on time and money.
Thanks to the 199 self-service customs clearance channels in Shanghai, about 40.5 percent of air passengers were able to pass through customs within ten seconds in 2019.
In July 2019, Pudong International Airport introduced RFID-tech, one of the most advanced luggage-management technologies in the global civil aviation industry, to enable air passengers to view real-time information about their luggage.
