Shanghai is testing a new state-level service platform designed to facilitate international intellectual property (IP) development and improve the city's business environment.

The platform was approved by the National Intellectual Property Administration and will serve the city's Pudong International Talent Hub, according to Rui Wenbiao, director of  the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, at a news conference for the municipal government on April 23.

In order to turn the platform into an IP transaction hub, the city is creating an online global marketplace where users are able to easily buy and sell IP projects.

The marketplace will not only provide enterprises with opportunities to expand abroad, but will also help stimulate the local economy by introducing high-quality IP from different countries.

In addition, services relating to financial innovation, key industry operation and IP application and protection are also available.

The platform will help the Shanghai alliance for international IP operation establish an international cooperation network. At present, more than 60 international institutions plan to join the alliance.

The platform will play an important role in the future of IP development in Shanghai and will help push forward scientific and technological innovation by connecting universities and enterprises with technology transfer institutions and financial investment institutions.
