Zhangjiang AIsland in Pudong New Area became one of the first AI application trial sites in Shanghai, according to an official announcement released on April 25.
"The new generation of AI is coming. Human-machine collaboration will become an important driving force for the development of information technology," said Zhang Ying, chief engineer of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.
On Dec 12 last year, Shanghai became the first city in China to issue an AI application site implementation plan. Shanghai's AI industry is gradually becoming a new growth point for intelligent economy.
As a specialized AI hub in Shanghai, Zhangjiang AIsland has brought together global industrial giants IBM, Infineon, Microsoft and Ada Health, as well as a batch of scientific research institutes and unicorn enterprises.
A total of 12 sites were selected as the first batch trial sites, including but not limited to schools, hospitals and residential communities. Aside from Zhangjiang AIsland, Pudong New Area's Lingang Sci-Tech City and the Shanghai branch of China Construction Bank were also listed.
By 2020, Shanghai plans to have 60 AI application sites and six innovative application demonstration zones.
