More than 1,800 hi-tech startup companies from the United States, Germany, Canada, Ukraine and Taiwan competed in an innovation and entrepreneurship competition at the Zhangjiang International Innovation Harbor in Pudong New Area, Shanghai, on March 7.
The "2019 Startup in Shanghai", one of the most professional and comprehensive entrepreneurial events in the city, is aimed at attracting more outstanding overseas entrepreneurs to start businesses in Pudong and providing them with suitable opportunities.
With a focus on leading technology and cutting-edge innovation from around the world, the event recorded a new high this year in terms of the number of participant companies, which accounted for nearly 24 percent of the city's total of startups.
Featured projects included ones from areas including internet of things, biomedicine, blockchain, and intelligent transportation.
Representatives from Fortune Global 500 companies were present to share insights into prospects of innovative ecology projects both at home and abroad.
"I'm here to scout for talents," said a representative from a Taiwan-based chip company who landed in Zhangjiang in 2018, adding that the company favors the global talent and industrial resources of Pudong.
