Intelligent manufacturing (also known as smart manufacturing) is a global trend of manufacturing that optimizes production and product transactions by making full use of advanced information and manufacturing technologies.

According to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, intelligent manufacturing in Shanghai has nurtured comprehensive advantages in value chains, industrial chains, innovation and resources.

With the current level of intelligent manufacturing, the average production efficiency in Shanghai has increased by more than 50 percent, and the average operation cost has been reduced by about 30 percent.

At present, Shanghai is one of the largest suppliers of intelligent manufacturing system solutions in China, and has cultivated a number of solution suppliers with industrial influence, such as CSG and DEMC.

In 2018, the total output value of 11 key integrators in Shanghai was 24.3 billion yuan ($3.62 billion), up 7.7 percent year-on-year. Also, the scale of the industrial robot industry in Shanghai ranks first in China, with total output value of eight key industrial robot enterprises reaching 22 billion yuan, up 8.3 percent year-on-year.

Shanghai has established a functional development path to serve intelligent manufacturing.

Meanwhile, Shanghai took the lead in cultivating suppliers of intelligent manufacturing system solutions, launching comprehensive financial service solutions and R&D platforms for smart manufacturing.

Relying on the construction of the global science and innovation hub, Shanghai will intensify implementation of special policies of high-end intelligent manufacturing, and promote upgrading of the industrial chain.
