Shanghai sees boom in new energy vehicles

A total of 73,724 new energy vehicles were registered in Shanghai in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 20.2 percent, according to official data released by the vehicle management department of the city's public security bureau.
By the end of 2018, the number of new energy vehicles in Shanghai had reached 239,784, which ranked top nationwide and even worldwide.
More than 360 models of new energy vehicles have been promoted and applied in Shanghai since 2016, 194 of which were added to the market in 2018, according to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization.
In the 2018 Shanghai new energy vehicles consumption market, private users were still the main consumers. A total of 52,810 new energy vehicles were promoted, of which 42,261 were plug-in hybrid vehicles.
Meanwhile, the number of pure electric cars promoted in the city increased by 40.1 percent compared with that in 2017. Private user promotion accounted for 10,549, up by 41.9 percent.
In addition, Shanghai continued to construct charging facilities, completing about 10,500 new public charging piles in 2018.
The city had built more than 210,600 charging piles by the end of 2018, including 36,200 public charging piles and 141,800 for private service. The ratio between new energy vehicles and charging piles improved to 1.12:1, indicating an effective response to the need for charging services.
