The fifth session of the sixth Pudong New Area People's Congress drew to an end in Shanghai on Jan 12.
More than 390, or nearly 92 percent, of the 426 deputies were in attendance during the three-day conference and were briefed on the 2018 social and economic report of the district government and development plans for 2019.
They also provided constructive suggestions on the development of Pudong New Area in the areas of education, medical care, public culture, supporting problems of the elders, and social service systems.
Weng Zuliang, Party secretary of Pudong New Area, said that as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Pudong will keep its long-term mission in mind and continue to seek high quality development, as well as openness and an environment where innovation can prosper.
In the coming year, the district will put forward new measures for the "four brands of Shanghai" – services, manufacturing, shopping and culture, seek breakthroughs in the construction of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, foster new growth engines for the economic development, promote technological and innovative development, and advance rural revitalization.
