National Day holiday boosts tourism and commerce in Pudong

Pudong New Area in Shanghai witnessed a boom in both tourism and commerce during the week-long National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7.
According to statistics provided by the Pudong Commission of Commerce, visitors to 33 major attractions in the area reached 1.86 million, up by 21.06 percent year on year, with the total tourist revenue amounting to 203 million yuan ($29.4 million).
Some of the district's skyscrapers such as Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower, Jinmao Tower, World Financial Center, and Shanghai Tower, where visitors can enjoy the spectacular view of the city's landscape, remained the hot spots.
The Oriental Pearl Radio & TV Tower received 168,600 visitors during the holiday, a year-on-year increase of 20 percent. The World Financial Center received 62,600 visitors, up by 32.35 percent year on year.
Rural tourism was also a popular choice during the holidays, for tourists who wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy the beauty and peace of nature.
For instance, the Shanghai Wild Animal Park attracted 311,300 tourists, increasing 37.74 percent year on year.
The sales revenue of 30 major commercial enterprises in Pudong rose 13.88 percent year on year to 654 million yuan.
Its ten shopping malls including the Shanghai Village, a member of the Bicester Village shopping collection, Florentia Village, and LCM, achieved a sales revenue of 358 million yuan, up by 23.21 percent year on year.
