Shanghai's Pudong New Area, a significant driving force for China's reform and opening-up, has made many pioneering efforts.
It developed China's first bonded area – Waigaoqiao Bonded Area, and China's first free trade zone – China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
Its regional GDP has increased 160-fold from 6 billion yuan ($869.6 million) in 1978 to nearly 1 trillion yuan this year.
Now, let's look at this thriving city through the lens of a Xinhua Journalist.
