The Harrow International School Shanghai, the fourth international school in the Harrow family, officially opened in Waigaoqiao area, Pudong, Shanghai, on June 7.

Notably, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, attended the opening ceremony.

The UK-based Harrow School was established in 1572 and is famous for educating many famous figures through history such as Winston Churchill and the Romantic poet Lord Byron.

Dedicated to promoting its education philosophy worldwide, the school started to expand its presence in Asia in 1998 with the opening of an international school in Bangkok, and it has since also opened schools in Hong Kong and Beijing.

The opening of the Harrow school in Shanghai is considered to be important because Shanghai is a city that integrates eastern and western culture and is a hub of some of the most advanced educational ideas, according to Daniel Chiu, founder of Harrow International Schools and Chairman and CEO of Harrow International.

The school targets pupils aged 2-18 and its curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum. It started recruiting students from pre-nursery to Year 10 in 2016, and opened admissions for Year 12 for the study of A-Levels (studied from the ages of 16-18) a year later.
