Punan Hospital rescues a patient from danger
The Punan Hospital ICU witnessed the recovery of a 61-year-old man who narrowly escaped death, according to a news report published on Pudong website on Jan 23.
The old man met with a road accident and later developed complications. He was immediately sent to a nearby hospital where he underwent a splenectomy and had his intestine and its mesentery repaired.
As he was previously inflicted with coronary heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, the wound remained unhealed for over a month. Due to such difficult situation, he was later transferred to Punan Hospital for further treatment.
Sun Baoling, who was in charge of Punan Hospital ICU, held a special consultation with medical experts to decide how to do the experiment on the patient.
After rounds of heated discussions, Song Donglei, a renowned professor specializing in neurology, decided to carry out an experiment of ventricular drainage and decompression of posterior cranial fossa.
All the hard work finally paid off. After a few days of considerable care and treatment, the patient recovered as the infection was prevented and the temperature, blood glucose and blood pressure returned to normal.
