The first measure Pudong has set out in its plan is to improve the quality of education for the young.
Pudong New Area plans to establish 140 more schools in five years, including 34 middle schools, 35 primary schools and 71 kindergardens. Seven current high schools and 23 middle and primary schools have been outlined for reorganization and expansion. Pudong will also standardize the construction of infrastructure in primary and middle schools, including theaters, labs, libraries, gyms and classrooms for education purposes.
Additionally, Pudong is making an effort to raise the quality of teachers and improve the quality of education in rural areas. In order to achieve this goal, Pudong will mainly endeavor in four aspects. Firstly, within 5 years, every primary, middle, and high school will be equipped with senior teachers.
Secondly, schools in rural areas will recruit more teachers to make sure the students can receive enough education. Thirdly, training courses will be offered regularly to teachers in rural areas. Fourthly, pay for teachers in less developed areas will be subsidized, so that they can have no worries about making a living.
