Souvenirs with Pudong features win tourism awards
Twelve souvenirs adorned with different aspects of Shanghai life, including its landscape, culture and history, won awards in the 2017 Shanghai Tourism Souvenir Design Contest awarding ceremony, which was held in Shanghai on Dec 21.
Over 1,800 participants submitted around 2,200 pieces of work for the contest, which was themed on "View of Shanghai". The decision making process took around 3 months.
Some of the designs have won the approval from some bosses. The multifunctional pen series featuring pictures of old Shanghai won the Business Value Prize. The designer has already signed a deal with a company which will help to sell and promote his products.
Pudong elements feature prominently on the design of the souvenirs. The winning pen series include pencils for drawing, an eyebrow pencil, and pens for signing.
According to its designer, pencils for drawing come into a set which include six pencils and all of them are made of wood. The top of them are carved with patterns of some of the symbolic buildings in Pudong New Area, including the Shanghai Tower, Oriental Pearl Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and Jin Mao Tower. The other two are patterned with the dragon and the phoenix which symbolize nobility and prosperity in Chinese culture.
Experts at the event spoke highly of the elaborate designs of all the winning works and said that with Shanghai's rapid development, souvenirs featuring elements of Shanghai will gain more popularity.
The ceremony is the city's annual tourism souvenir competition, and next year's themes will be intelligence, ecology, and oriental flavor, according to experts.
