Swiss technology company ABB is expanding localization of its marine propulsion business in Pudong. Since opening its Shanghai factory in 2011, the company has delivered more than 250 Azipod® electric propulsion units for ships in China and abroad, including China's first domestically built large cruise ship and the Xuelong 2 polar research vessel.

ABB said that stronger local engineering, production, and supply chains have cut delivery times by nearly 50 percent over the past five years. The factory can now produce 60 propulsion units per year, with each unit taking about eight weeks to assemble.

German semiconductor company Infineon Technologies has opened a new Innovation Space in Pudong to support joint research and product development with local partners.

The company said its "In China, For China" strategy has shortened customers' product development cycles by 30 to 40 percent, and customized solutions have reduced sample delivery times by more than 50 percent.

Infineon is also building a new distribution center in Pudong, scheduled to open in 2027. It will become the company's largest finished-products distribution center worldwide and strengthen its global supply chain by leveraging Shanghai Pudong International Airport and the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
