Pudong accelerates scaled deployment of humanoid robot industry
Shanghai's Pudong New Area has emerged as a pivotal hub for the development of humanoid robots, attracting more than 100 companies specializing in embodied AI, including 30 complete robot manufacturers.
The district has released 25 humanoid robot products, with sales surpassing 6,000 units in 2025. These robots, driven by the integration of large AI models and embodied intelligence, are evolving from the level of preset actions to environmental perception, decision-making and task execution.
This technological advancement was showcased during the 2026 Shanghai Half Marathon on March 15, where multiple humanoid robots developed by Pudong-based enterprises formed a "cheering squad" along the race route, highlighting the district's scientific and technological capabilities.
Leading firms in the industry are carving out distinct market niches, such as Fourier Intelligence, which has provided products and services to about 2,000 institutions and hospitals in more than 40 countries and regions. AgiBot has adopted a "Robot as a Service" (RaaS) rental model, expanding its service network to 17 countries and regions and implementing scenario-based applications.
Pudong's humanoid robot industry advances through the coordinated development of robot hardware, intelligent systems, and industrial ecology. The district focuses on technological innovation, platform construction, scenario application, and ecosystem improvement.
To further accelerate industry development, Pudong has implemented several key measures, including promoting the application of humanoid robots in industrial manufacturing, healthcare and commercial services; establishing training, testing and financial leasing platforms; and leveraging industry funds to support enterprises throughout their entire life cycles.
