Shanghai is strengthening its position as a leading international trade center, according to a recent press conference by China's Ministry of Commerce.

The Ministry, along with other departments, is actively supporting efforts to enhance Shanghai's role in the global trade network, focusing on coordinating goods, services, and digital trade.

From January to October this year, Shanghai's total import and export volume reached 3.7 trillion yuan ($520.59 billion), a 5.2 percent increase. Exports alone rose to 1.6 trillion yuan, up by 10.5 percent. The Port of Shanghai has remained the world's busiest container port for 15 consecutive years.

Efforts to establish a comprehensive green supply chain management service system are underway, with a focus on exploring product carbon footprint accounting and promoting international recognition of green product standards, certification, and labeling.

The service trade sector is also experiencing rapid growth, with digital trade showing increased dynamism.

In the first nine months of the year, Shanghai's service import and export volume reached 1.8 trillion yuan, a 5 percent year-on-year growth. Digital services trade accounted for 698.63 billion yuan, a 6.4 percent increase.

The city is advancing the construction of an international data economy industrial park and establishing multiple high-capacity computing centers.

Shanghai is also increasing its institutional openness. The China (Shanghai) Free Trade Zone has implemented 80 reform measures, with 77 being adopted nationwide or in other free trade zones. The scope of bonded maintenance businesses is expanding, and Shanghai is the first in the country to pilot bonded remanufacturing.
