Shanghai Port sees annual container throughput exceed 50m TEUs
Shanghai Port has achieved a historic milestone by handling 50 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) this year, becoming the first port globally to surpass this threshold. This remarkable achievement underscores Shanghai's transformation from a merely great port to a globally leading one, characterized by digitalization, intelligence, and green development.

Forty years ago, Shanghai Port's container throughput was a mere 7,951 TEUs, a far cry from today's number. The port has benefited from China's economic rise, with made-in-China products now sold worldwide. Shanghai Port's service capacity has significantly increased, marked by its continuous breakthroughs and numerous "firsts" in global port history.
The port's evolution is epitomized by its automation journey. The Yangshan Phase IV Automated Terminal, one of the world's most intelligent automated container terminals, has significantly enhanced operational efficiency. Moreover, Shanghai Port is pioneering green transformation, offering LNG and green methanol bunkering services and aligning with the global trend towards low-carbon shipping.
