The first batch of these artistic treasures was recently transported from the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone within the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone to the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), venue for the annual CIIE. The art pieces will be presented at the CIIE through bonded exhibition and trading.

This year's CIIE art section boasts the participation of 11 overseas cultural art institutions and enterprises. To date, over 60 exhibits have been declared, with a total value of approximately 530 million yuan ($74.58 million). Notable auction houses and art institutions such as Phillips and Vmuse have appeared at the CIIE for consecutive years. Moreover, esteemed international galleries and institutions like Galleria Continua from Italy and Global Art Project SA from Switzerland will make their debut, bringing top-tier artworks and antiques.

Under the guidance of relevant departments, including the National Cultural Heritage Administration and Shanghai Customs, as well as with the support of the Waigaoqiao Group, Shanghai FTZ International Culture Investment and Development Co Ltd has been authorized by the CIIE Bureau since 2021 to oversee the recruitment and operation of the art section. The company provides overseas exhibitors from more than 20 countries and regions with comprehensive solutions for attending the expo's art section, actively facilitating the transformation of hundreds of artistic pieces from exhibits to commodities.

Relying on the CIIE as a primary channel for promoting the return of overseas cultural relics, Shanghai has emerged as a key entry point into China for international artworks and antiques.
