The first phase of the Luojing Port in Shanghai officially opened on Aug 7, further solidifying Shanghai Port's status as a pivotal hub and optimizing its cargo handling structure.
In recent years, the construction of smart ports has emerged as a strong driver for the high-quality development of Shanghai Port. At the container terminal of the Luojing Port, gantry cranes and rail-mounted cranes stand tall, with automated unmanned container transport vehicles moving containers around the terminal, almost devoid of any human operators — a testament to the most advanced automated terminal in China.
The equipment and vehicles required for terminal operations, including shore cranes, rail-mounted cranes, automated intelligent vehicles (AIVs), forklifts, and inspection vehicles, are all electric-powered. They are complemented by green energy-saving technologies such as AIV intelligent charging and changing systems, variable frequency speed regulation, regenerative braking, and photovoltaic power generation, ensuring "zero" carbon emissions during operations.
According to plans, the Luojing Port is set to achieve an annual throughput capacity of 6 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units). Currently, Shanghai is accelerating the transformation of the second phase of the Luojing Port container terminal, focusing on digitization, intelligence, and green initiatives to further enhance port efficiency.
