Siemens Healthineers launched its maiden production and research base for diagnostic reagents in the Asia-Pacific region on June 5. Located in Pudong, this cutting-edge facility stands as an emblem of the company's sustained commitment to China's rapidly growing healthcare sector.

"Becoming a 'Healthy China' has evolved into a paramount blueprint for our global operations. The inauguration of our diagnostic reagent factory signifies the strength of our dedication towards China's rapidly flourishing healthcare market," said Tao Lin, a board member of Siemens Healthineers.

With an investment of 30 billion yuan ($4.19 billion), the base spans over 35,000 square meters. Once it attains peak operational capacity, it is poised to manufacture a broad spectrum of immunodiagnostic reagents for various clinical tests, including but not limited to heart diseases, thyroid conditions, sex hormones, and tumors. The facility is designed to provide an array of auxiliary products pivotal for immunodiagnosis like calibrators, diluents, and quality control items, capable of catering to an estimated 600 million tests annually.

The activation of the facility denotes an essential phase in Siemens Healthineers' persistent orchestration of its "Intelligent Innovation" strategy in the Chinese market. The company envisions augmenting its local value chain layout in the forthcoming years.

Notably, Siemens Healthineers is scheduled to enhance its market dominance once the facility reaches full production and will domestically produce approximately 90 percent of the immunodiagnostic reagents deployed in the Chinese market. The company continues its stride towards the full product line localization, with current achievements including the development and production of over 90 distinct products within China.
