Shanghai Customs has taken special measures to ensure that customs clearance of imports and exports at the world's largest port will not be affected by the city's phased lockdown.

Shanghai has both the world's largest container port and the world's third largest international airport. The city's preferential policies and convenient port business environment have become a magnet for global industrial chains and supply chains.

Official statistics show that as of March 29, Shanghai Customs had examined nearly 9,000 inbound and outbound ships, accounting for 15 percent of the country's coastal ports total, as well as more than 19,600 international cargo aircrafts, which took up 35 percent of airports nationwide.

On March 27, Yangshan port customs welcomed more than 790 employees on 33 inbound and outbound vessels, a 30 percent increase from normal operating conditions and a new high for a single day since the beginning of the year.The Yangshan customs also implemented special measures to allow a shipment of 65,500 tons of liquefied natural gas to be unloaded in a rapid manner to ensure stable gas supply in the megacity, as local residents remain confined to their homes or neighborhoods in accordance with epidemic control protocols.

The customs at Pudong International Airport also carried out "non-contact" examinations using sci-tech methods to enhance the epidemic prevention and control accuracy as well as the flight clearance efficiency.
