Pudong will continue to lead socialist modernization by building a Golden Middle Ring Development Belt during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, officials said at a promotional conference held at Shanghai Tower on Oct 26.
The Golden Middle Ring Development Belt refers to the 28.7-kilometer section of Shanghai's Middle Ring Road in Pudong New Area. It comprises three centers, namely the Qiantan area, Zhangjiang, and Jinqiao, with distinctive focuses.
Officials said that the Qiantan area will work to entice more international organizations and regional headquarters to set up operations; Zhangjiang will undertake the country's strategic scientific and technological projects, including integrated circuits, chips, biomedicine, as well as the online economy; while Jinqiao will focus on industrial transformation and functional innovation in industries like artificial intelligence, 5G, and high-end manufacturing.
"The development belt boasts many rare resources for a modern city, such as a highly competitive industrial foundation, abundant innovation entities, and sufficient space," said Bi Guiping, a senior official of Pudong.
Since construction started on July 10, 2020, the belt has seen a number of projects being signed and built.
At the promotional conference, agreements on a batch of advanced manufacturing and modern services projects were signed, including those sponsored by Japanese drugmaker Takeda and premier hotel chain Marriott International.
