In the field of medical devices, an industrial cluster represented by MicroPort Scientific Corporation and Shanghai Kinetic Co Ltd is gradually being formed in Pudong.
The target eluting stent, Firehawk, developed by MicroPort, was reported in the journal The Lancet in 2018. It was the first time the journal has reported on China's medical devices since its founding in 1823.
Pudong has made some breakthroughs in institutional difficulties and overcome sales problems in the MAH (Marketing Authorization Holder) system. But more progress is still needed.
To strengthen its role as a biomedical hub, the area plans to integrate medical institutions, innovative R&D enterprises and medical testing and research functional resources to build a platform for collaborative innovation in biomedicine.
Pudong New Area also plans to introduce some biological product projects involving precision medicine and related fields to form a complete industrial chain.
