Sony Logistics Trade (China) Co Ltd
Sony Logistics Trade (China) Co Ltd, or Sony Logistics, founded in 1998, is in charge of international trade and logistics businesses of Sony Group's electronic products and parts in China. It provides services for clients all around the world and strives to develop international purchasing and distribution businesses.
By making use of the preferential policies of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, or SHFTZ, Sony Logistics integrates the functions of logistics, trade and fund settlement, making itself become Sony Group's supply chain management and integration platform with the largest business volume.
Since August in 2014, Sony Logistics was designated as a pilot site by SHFTZ to enjoy the preferential policies on foreign exchange. The policies can reduce the company's costs in exchange settlement and service charges and help it save 240,000 yuan ($37,079) in expenditure every year. As of now, 65 enterprises are involved in the centralized operation of Sony Logistics' foreign exchange funds and their monthly volume of offset balance reached 10 million USD. These enterprises can save payment costs by 150,000 USD and increase the interest income of capital utilization rate by 280,000 USD.
The new policies allow Sony Logistics to import goods before customs clearance. Thanks to coordinator system and paperless reform, it only takes Sony Logistics two hours to pick up the imported goods at the port, much shorter than the original of one workday and saving its cost in storage charges at port garage. Sony Logistics, originally only responsible for the China region, is now also in charge of the purchase businesses in Japan, Singapore and Malaysia. As of now, Sony Logistics has more than 400 suppliers in China, with only nine in 2007, and the number of its plants around the world has risen to 66 from six.
Relying on the preferential policies in SHFTZ, Sony Logistics has made remarkable increases in economic benefit and efficiency. Its development experience can provide a strategic reference for other logistics enterprises.
