Artemed Group is a Germany hospital and institution for elderly care service. Shanghai Artemed Hospital Co Ltd, or Shanghai Artemed Hospital, is the first international hospital project in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone. It was co-founded by Artemed Group and Silver Mountain; a company specializing in hospitals, high-end clinics and living communities, in 2015. The construction of the hospital could be divided into two phases. The first phase includes an orthopedic center and a PET-MRI high-end image center and would be finished by the third quarter of 2018.

The implementation of "negative list" management method and open measures for service industry in China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone sped up the construction of joint venture medical institutions. Thanks to the new policies, Shanghai Artemed Hospital became the zone's first foreign-funded hospital.

The measures to facilitate trade contributed to the import of medical equipment and consumable. Shanghai Artemed Hospital could enjoy the summary procedure for import declaration and the distribution mode for imported goods, allowing it to conduct international direct procurement and spend less time on import declaration. The distribution mode helped the hospital cut cost and found a distribution center of medical consumables. The facilitation measure also helped implement the projects of medical treatment, education and research. Shanghai Artemed would take part in Shanghai's reform on single disease settlement meaning that the hospital's patients could enjoy world-level medical services at health-care prices.

China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone prioritized the opening-up of medical services. As the first comprehensive hospital project in the zone, Shanghai Artemed Hospital was expected to help Shanghai build a diverse and multilevel medical service system.
