The 2026 Shanghai Peach Blossom Festival kicked off on March 26, marking a transition from its previous emphasis on the Pudong New Area to a coordinated "four-district collaboration" model.

Founded in 1991, the festival is Shanghai's first flower-themed celebration and one of the city's oldest spring cultural tourism events. The 2026 edition runs for 18 days, through April 12.

This year, 15 towns and subdistricts in Pudong are participating. Areas such as Zhoujiadu and Chuansha are showcasing their signature offerings. More than 300 activities are scheduled across Pudong, spanning flower viewing, intangible cultural heritage and themed markets across more than 10 sectors.

The festival has expanded its geographical scope beyond Pudong, encompassing various districts. For example, Qingcun town in Fengxian district is hosting a curated poetry gathering centered around the theme of peach blossoms. In Putuo district, Taopu Park has introduced a 3.5-kilometer designated walking route and Zhongshan Park in Changning district stands out for its stunning displays of peach blossoms and crabapple flowers.

The festival also serves as a platform for supporting east-west cooperation, promoting cultural exchange and ethnic unity. A highlight of this festival was the cultural performance of song and dance from Nujiang prefecture, Yunnan province, which was showcased at the opening event held at Nanhui Peach Blossom Garden.

Travel agencies have introduced 17 themed tour routes to meet diverse visitor needs. Meanwhile, 21 village cafes, 44 star-rated homestays and 12 commercial complexes in the area are offering exclusive festival discounts, encouraging visitors to extend their stay and experience the event at a slower pace.
