Pudong makes strides in AI-powered healthcare innovation
Shanghai's Pudong New Area is emerging as a hub for AI-powered healthcare, supported by a robust biomedicine ecosystem and a growing number of companies integrating artificial intelligence into medical services.
In a clinic in Saudi Arabia, an AI doctor developed by Shanghai Synyi Medical Technology Co, based in Pudong, is diagnosing patients, marking the launch of the world's first AI clinic pilot.
Launched in May last year, the clinic is an L4-level pilot — the highest level currently recognized in AI healthcare — and now covers 30 common respiratory conditions.
When patients arrive, the AI doctor takes the lead in managing common conditions. Through multimodal interaction, it quickly collects symptom information and generates a standardized report that includes differential diagnoses, test recommendations, and medication plans, which a human physician then reviews.

XtalPi, another strong performer in the AI-powered healthcare sector, is accelerating its global expansion. The company has recently delivered an intelligent, automated robotic laboratory for drug discovery and process optimization to South Korea's leading pharmaceutical firm, JW Pharmaceutical, and the project has passed final acceptance.
The collaboration marks the first large-scale deployment of XtalPi's autonomous AI laboratory platform at an overseas pharmaceutical company. It underscores growing international recognition of its AI-for-Science platform, which integrates advanced algorithms with large-scale robotic experimentation.
