Pudong Shipping Week 2025 opened on Dec 1 at the Shanghai International Conference Center, emphasizing green and digital transformation in shipping under the theme "Navigating an Intelligent and Diverse Ecosystem".

The opening ceremony was attended by key officials from Pudong New Area and Shanghai, including Li Zheng, director of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration, and Wu Jincheng, executive deputy director of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Administration.

Senior industry figures also participated, including Dimitris Monioudis, deputy chairman of the Technical Committee of Intercargo, and Aditi Rasquinha, CEO of DHL Global Forwarding Greater China.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Pudong New Area has accelerated its development toward a fully established Shanghai International Shipping Center. Nearly 13,000 shipping enterprises and high-end service providers now operate locally, supporting digitalization, green transformation, and global collaboration.

At the opening ceremony, a report by the Transport Planning and Research Institute, the Ministry of Transport, and Shanghai Maritime University proposed a China-specific framework for assessing shipping centers, guiding innovative development and strategic upgrades aligned with the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30).

The event unveiled 10 Pudong High-end Shipping Service Innovation Projects, including Cosco Shipping's maritime AI pilot and other initiatives in green, energy-efficient, and digital shipping solutions. Several high-level technology and supply-chain projects also signed agreements to settle in Pudong New Area.

Running until Dec 6, Pudong Shipping Week will host forums on shipping finance and investment, green insurance, digital trade, large-model shipping, and maritime arbitration, with over 6,000 global industry participants expected.
