The eighth China International Import Expo (CIIE) and the Hongqiao International Economic Forum kicked off in Shanghai on Nov 5, once again transforming the city into a hub for global visitors. Among the familiar faces were multinational corporations from Shanghai's Pudong New Area, brimming with fresh expectations for China's vast market.

The CIIE serves as a broad platform and a valuable opportunity for global companies to connect with the Chinese market. Roche, the first multinational pharmaceutical company to set up operations in Pudong's Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, has consistently invested in innovation. This year, the company made a substantial commitment by investing 2.04 billion yuan ($286.45 million) in a new biopharmaceutical production base in Pudong.

"The new base symbolizes the first localized production of large-molecule antibody biologics by a multinational pharmaceutical firm in China, underscoring Roche's deep-rooted commitment to the market," said Vivian Bian, president of Roche Pharmaceutical China.

AstraZeneca also expressed its ambition to position China as a pivotal hub for global healthcare innovation. The company's announcement of an expansion project at its Qingdao base in East China's Shandong province during the eighth CIIE reflects its confidence in China's innovative ecosystem.

Japanese beauty giant Shiseido regards the CIIE as a potent catalyst for integrating its China and travel retail businesses. The company plans to increase investments in developing next-generation flagship products and building brand equity in the Chinese market.

Gilead Sciences, celebrating over eight years in China, has launched 13 global innovative drugs domestically. This year, Gilead's Shanghai office underwent expansion, showcasing two highly anticipated Asian premieres at the CIIE.

China is transforming its colossal market into a globally shared one, fostering an environment where innovation, consumption, and growth mutually reinforce each other, offering immense potential for multinational corporations.
