On March 28, the bunker tanker Tongyin 5005 supplied approximately 2,700 metric tons of B24 marine biofuel to the container vessel COSCO FRANCE at Yangshan Port. This operation, which lasted about six hours, marks another expansion of Shanghai Port's green fuel bunkering services, following the establishment of regular liquefied natural gas (LNG) and green methanol fuel supplies.
B24 marine biofuel, a blend of 24 percent biodiesel and 76 percent conventional fuel oil, offers a 20-percent reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional fossil fuels. Its "drop-in" compatibility allows existing vessels to use it without major modifications, making it a practical choice for shipping companies during the energy transition.
Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration meticulously planned and supervised the operation, ensuring safety and compliance. This successful bunkering operation not only advances Shanghai Port's green energy infrastructure but also contributes to the global maritime industry's decarbonization efforts.
