Global institutional investors gather in Pudong under the GIC plan
Pudong New Area in Shanghai, as a hub for financial resources, is gradually becoming an attractive destination for global institutional investors. In early December 2024, during the Global Institutional Investors Concentration (GIC) Plan promotional event, the Pudong New Area Finance Bureau signed memoranda of strategic cooperation with Société Générale Securities and Fortress Investment Group, enhancing Pudong's development into a mature international financial center with abundant international experience.
Since 2021, Pudong has actively promoted the GIC plan, aiming to attract global institutional investors. A plan for the GIC in Pudong was officially issued in December 2023. Since its implementation, Pudong has added over 30 important institutional investors annually.
To enhance the clustering effect, Pudong has established a database for potential global investors interested in the Chinese market. It also closely collaborates with various markets and financial regulatory authorities to build a more open financial market and product system. Pudong boasts 13 national-level markets and infrastructure, with transaction sizes and activity ranking among the top globally.
Moreover, Pudong has continuously increased the number of financial products and tools to meet global investors' trading needs. In recent years, various derivatives and futures have been listed on China's exchanges. Global investors can participate in domestic financial markets through various channels such as QFII and bond connectivity.
The GIC plan is a crucial part of Pudong's "6G" plans, aiming to enhance the internationalization of financial markets. Pudong has established the GIC Alliance with major financial markets and organized several closed-door seminars to discuss financial trends. Pudong will continue to align with international trade rules, enhance global resource allocation capabilities, and attract more global institutional investors.
