Pudong Airport sees surge in cross-border e-commerce exports in first 11 months
In the light of the rapid global expansion of e-commerce, the cross-border e-commerce export industry of China has witnessed considerable growth.
According to the latest data released by Shanghai Customs, Pudong Airport has handled a staggering 476 million items of cross-border e-commerce direct purchase exports, valued at 71.66 billion yuan ($9.81 billion), in the first 11 months of this year, marking a year-on-year increase of 20.2 percent in export orders.

The accelerating overseas expansion of domestic e-commerce platforms has led to an increasing number of countries being served and a more diverse range of products being offered. This trend has placed higher demands on cross-border e-commerce logistics enterprises in terms of product design capabilities, overseas coordination skills, and intelligent management.
In response to these developments, the General Administration of Customs of China issued an announcement on Nov 25 aimed at optimizing the export supervision of cross-border e-commerce. The announcement, effective from Dec 15, encompasses four key measures: canceling the registration of cross-border e-commerce export overseas warehouse enterprises, simplifying export document declaration procedures, expanding the pilot program of "inspection before loading" for consolidated exports, and promoting the cross-customs district return supervision model for cross-border e-commerce retail exports.
Shanghai Pudong International Airport Customs has continuously promoted reforms in the supervision of export cross-border e-commerce. By initiating electronic export release, the customs agency has achieved full-process electronic approval and release, enhancing logistics efficiency.
"In anticipation of export peaks during promotional discount events such as 'Black Friday' overseas, we have prepared work plans in advance," said Bao Fangyi from the Shanghai Pudong International Airport Customs.
"Even if enterprises declare their goods late at night, we can ensure immediate release, achieving a 24/7 clearance process. Furthermore, after facilitating the combined declaration of imported return parcels and exported e-commerce goods, we have focused on establishing a safe, efficient, and fast return channel for cross-border e-commerce retail exports."
